Setting up two-step verification

Your client portal holds your policy details and documents, so signing in needs two things: your password and a 6-digit code from an authenticator app. A stolen password alone cannot open your account.

What you need

A free authenticator app. Any standard app works, for example Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or the authenticator built into many password managers. If you do not have a smartphone, a desktop or password-manager authenticator works too. FreshWave does not send sign-in codes by text message.

Set it up (about 2 minutes)

  1. Sign in to the client portal with your email and password.
  2. You are taken to Account Security. Choose Set up two-step verification.
  3. In your authenticator app, add an account and scan the QR code, or type the setup key shown under it.
  4. Enter the 6-digit code the app shows and choose Turn on two-step verification.
  5. Recommended: choose Add a backup authenticator app and add a second device (another phone, a tablet, or a password manager). If you lose one device, the other still works.

From then on, after your password you enter the current code from your app. Codes change every 30 seconds.

If you lose your phone or authenticator

Use your backup authenticator if you added one. Otherwise call FreshWave at 701-566-3656. To protect you, we confirm your identity before we reset anything: with a government photo ID in person or on a live video call, or by calling you back at the phone number already on your policy record and asking two policy details. We never ask for your password or a sign-in code. After the reset, you set up a new authenticator the next time you sign in.

Resetting your password does not turn off two-step verification. You still need a code from your authenticator app after a password reset.
